1. How exactly does the program work?
The program is set up as a series of stations around the city, called 'hubs'. The hubs are all unmanned and available 24 hours a day. Each hub is a red bike rack that has the People's Pedal bikes locked to it, and a small safe key box attached. The locations of the racks are listed on the HUBS page.
Membership gets you the code to the safe key box. In the safe there are keys to all of the bikes locked to the rack; and you can pick the bike that suits you best and be on your merry way. The code to the key boxes will be changed periodically and members will be notified when a change is coming by email. The code is available to members on a secure area of this website.
Use the People's Pedal bikes to make your trips, run your errands, or just have fun and ride. When you're done, head to the nearest hub and properly lock the bike in the rack, and return the key to the safe box.
2. How do I become a member of The People's Pedal?
The easiest way to get a membership is to purchase one at Earth's General Store, located at 10832 82 Ave, upstairs, or at the Edmonton Mountain Equipment Co-op.
Or you can become a member of The People's Pedal by simply downloading our membership form and sending it, with a cheque for $25, to:
The People's Pedal

Edmonton, AB T5J 2P2
Or, contact us for infromation on other ways to join.
3. What happens if the bike gets stolen?
If the People's Pedal bike are borrowing is stolen, we ask that you report to us where and when it was stolen so that we can keep track of where bikes go missing and work to recover as many of our bikes as we can.
4. How long is a membership good for?
The membership is good for one year from the date of purchase (or with required amount of volunteer hours). We will notify you of when your membership is about to expire.
5. Are the hubs open 24 hours a day?
Yes. For more information on how the system works see How exactly does the program work?.
6. How long can I borrow a bike for?
We are asking that members return their bike to a hub within 4 hours of taking a bike out. This should be thought of as a maximum time and the purpose of the SHARING project is to have the bikes available for others when they are not in use. So bring the bike back as soon as you're done using it.
